Gifted all the way around, Jaylen Johnson is giving football fans in the city of Redding (Cali.) a reason to take-in a high school game on Friday nights. Johnson (6-2.5, 197) can throw it on a line, with touch in the corner of the end zone, or beat you on the ground looking like a natural tailback with vision and speed. A foundation season was set during the three-star’s sophomore campaign with high expectations ahead as the Hornets prepare for their 2023 schedule.
Holding eight offers, teams across the country are taking notice in Johnson.
“Tennessee, Kentucky, Oregon, Oregon State, Penn State, UCLA, USC, and Stanford are showing interest,” Johnson shared.
Johnson listed the teams building that rapport, “Stanford, Miami, Oregon State, Washington, and there are more but I can’t think of them right now.”
Over the summer, Johnson slung it in front of college coaches at Oregon State, Western Oregon, Sacramento State, and Cal camps. Additional visits were taken to Stanford, Oregon State, and Cal.
Some of those current Pac-12 programs visited may see Johnson again some Saturday this fall.
“I’m planning on visiting Oregon State, Cal, and Stanford,” Johnson stated.
The growing relationship with the Pac-12 schools visited was detailed.
Stanford: “Our relationship is pretty good, they like me and my game, they can see the future with me.”
Oregon State: “That is really good relationship. I have had a connection with them and their DB coach, coach Blue Adams. I am receiving a lot of love from them.”
Cal: “It is good. I have a good relationship with coach (Jake) “Spav” (Spavital – OC/QB). They like me over there too.”
When college coaches receive updated film on Johnson in the coming weeks, they will see him doing a little bit of everything again for the Hornets.
“We are an RPO (run-pass option) offense and a Spread,” Johnson said. “Our receivers are really good route runners, I’m excited about our offensive style this season.”
Johnson continued sharing how his skills fit the Hornets’ scheme, “When we are doing roll outs, floods, RPOs, they don’t know if I will run or pass; we have good receivers.”
In stats posted through 10 games, Johnson threw for 1,606 yards with 22 touchdowns and carried the rock 67 times for 527 yards with five more scores during his sophomore season.
The improvements to watch for this fall, “My arm strength, reading defenses, and being smarter.”
Enterprise begins their 2023 season on the road come Friday taking on Orland.
