Few are as athletically gifted as Bryce Clavon with the choice to play college ball with any program in the nation. Even fewer are as talented with opportunities to be a two-sport athlete in college. At Marietta’s (Ga.) Kell High School, Clavon (5-11, 182) is a next-level shortstop all teams want with over 60 scholarships extended and a quarterback with 15 offers. The decision to play one or the other, or both, is something Clavon is mulling over as he sets up official visits.
On the diamond, Clavon has been traveling the country with East Cobb Astro showing off the glove and stick. The Perfect Game No. 17 ranked player in the 2024 class updated his baseball recruiting process.
“By the grace of God, I can go wherever I want in baseball,” Clavon said.
Teams like Oklahoma, UNLV, Troy, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Dartmouth, and Appalachian State giving Clavon football offers have doubled those with baseball opportunities.
Wanting to play both sports in college, Clavon has two official visits set that will give him that chance.
“The two I know of are Indiana and UNLV,” Clavon shared.
The rapport with the Hoosiers’ coaching staff was given.
“Coach (Walt) Bell (OC/QB), we have a great relationship,” Clavon stated. “We see eye to eye on a lot of things, which is very important with recruiting.”
Out in Las Vegas, the relationship with Rebels’ offensive coordinator/quarterback coach Brennan Marion extends back to Austin, Texas.
“Coach Marrion, he was trying to get me at Texas before going to UNLV,” Clavon said. “We’ve had a good relationship for a while now.”
The list of paid for trips checking out colleges as a shortstop will take a while to complete.
“I have a whole bunch set for baseball,” Clavon shared. “For baseball, Georgia, Texas, Oregon, Tennessee, and LSU.”
As soon as the college football season begins, the plan is to start taking visits. A tentative plan for a commitment date was shared.
“I plan to be committed by December,” Clavon stated.
The desire is to play both, but the pull to football or baseball may lead Clavon down a different path.
“For some, football has been brought up,” Clavon said. “It is getting to the point where I might have to pick one sport.”
Per Baseball America, Clavon could be a Day 1 Major League Baseball Draft pick presenting yet another option.
