Stanford Lands OT Henry Hattis and CB Treyjohn Butler over the Weekend
Written by Ryan Wright
The Cardinal continues to add key recruiting pieces to their 2016 class pushing towards a Top 15 overall haul. Over the weekend Stanford landed 4-star cornerback Treyjohn Butler and 3-star offensive tackle Henry Hattis bulking up an already solid class.
Butler committed to Stanford on Friday out of Etiwanda High School in Rancho Cucamonga, California. The 5’11”, 190 pound, cover corner helped the Eagles to a 4-5-1 mark in 2014 coming up with 28 tackles, 16 solo, two tackles for a loss, and one pick. As a sophomore offenses tried coming Butler’s way but he made them pay totaling 35 tackles with seven interceptions.
College recruiters like Washington, Northwestern Illinois, Colorado, Arizona State, Washington State, and Cal all extended offers. The Cardinal landed Butler after he made an announcement on Aug. 6 of his Top 4 with Cal, Arizona State, Northwestern, and Stanford.
Hattis was an anchor along Cleveland High School’s offensive line in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. The big 6’6”, 265 pound, tackle has the frame to play on the outside at the next level after sometime in the weight room and a few added pounds.
The Storm were a run-first team in 2014 posting a 7-5 record seeing senior Jesse Nieto rush for over 1,100 yards and junior dual-threat quarterback Gabe Ortega pass for 1,600 yard while rushing for another 729 with Hattis leading the way up front.
Stanford now has three offensive linemen committed and three cornerbacks. The recruiting haul to Palo Alto has been impressive considering of the 15 commits nine are from outside the state of California. Another impressive note, what recruiting rankings are worth, nine of the commitments are considered 4-star recruits; OT Yarbrough, CB Long, CB Butler, QB Costello, LB Robinson, RB Bisharat, CB Edmonds, TE Smith, and WR Fehoko (Rivals).
