There are always multiple draws to Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) for college coaches to see the talent at Cardinal Gibbons, this spring Patrick Anderson Jr. is added to the updated yearly list. The three-star 2023 prospect popped when he could last season showing he’s an every down back playing behind Iowa Hawkeyes’ signee Kamari Moulton. This fall, the pigskin is Anderson’s to ram down the throats of Florida defenses.
A magnet to the end zone turning 39 rushing attempts into six scores, Anderson explained the Chiefs’ scheme.
“We run an Air-Raid offense, but we incorporate power runs with a pulling guard in the offense,” Anderson said.
The three-star is versatile, able to play other roles within the scheme.
“This season I will be playing running back but can play the slot with my route running and hands,” Anderson shared.
Preparations have been ongoing throughout the offseason getting ready for the breakout campaign ahead.
“I have been working on everything,” Anderson stated. “My footspeed, squats, bench press, and quick cuts between the guard and tackle. Route running and catching is natural for me. I work on it, but it is natural for me.”
Holding offers from Bethune-Cookman, Florida International, and Buffalo, interest is rising with college coaches making the rounds in the Sunshine State.
“Fordham is showing interest, and so is Furman,” Anderson shared. “Last Thursday, Illinois showed a lot of interest, and so is Georgetown. I’m pretty sure they are looking at last year’s tape.”
One of the offering programs brought Anderson to campus this spring.
“I went to Bethune-Cookman for their spring game,” Anderson said. “It was a good visit. Bethune-Cookman has a good atmosphere. The HBCU experience was a good one.”
The staff in Daytona is developing a bond with Anderson, especially running backs coach Donte’ Pimpleton.
“I have a good connection with their running backs coach,” Anderson stated. “I saw him at the spring game and talked to him. We have a really good connection.”
The summer days will be spent making sure next level coaching staffs know Anderson’s name before the 2023 season kicks off.
“This summer, me and a few teammates are doing a summer tour,” Anderson shared. “Last year we went to around 15 colleges.”
The college tours this summer will include a camp circuit.
“I have been invited to a lot of camps,” Anderson said “I might go Temple, Duke, and Wake Forest; I’ve received the invite from those schools. It all depends on who shows the most interest. I don’t want to go to a camp when they don’t want me there.”
When Anderson’s time comes to sign with a school, he knows what he is looking for before committing.
“The main thing is, I want to be wanted at that school, not just be someone who is there,” Anderson shared. “I want to compete for a spot on the roster. As long as it is not terrible and I can put in the work to get where I want to get, that is what I am looking for.”
