The state of Georgia produces fantastic high school players year after year, and at all positions. A space along the recruiting trail where the Peach State never lets college coaches down is at running back. Any given year, there is a long list of tailbacks ready to take their talents to the D-I level contributing to their respective squads at a high level. The next one in line keeping the pipeline moving is Sandy Creek’s Amari Latimer.
Producing beyond his Class of 2026 classification, Latimer (6-0, 190) showed the burst, speed, and fearlessness to take on 3A Georgia defenses accumulating 648 yards on the ground off 112 totes with seven touchdowns and hauled in 20 passes for 154 yards with two more scores going up on the board.
Keeping in shape for football, Latimer has been lending his athletic talents to the Patriots’ basketball and track teams.
“I mainly run the 400 and 200, but I didn’t get to get into track this past season because we won state in basketball,” Latimer said. “I had two or three weeks before regionals.”
Latimer continued, “Our basketball season went well. I played JV and varsity basketball; it kept me going.”
Turning to action on the field, Latimer covered his spring football workouts.
“I have been working on running back stuff, and linebacker stuff too,” Latimer stated. “This year I am playing both ways. I’ve been working some at safety too. I can play safety; some people don’t know that.”
College teams already have a watchful eye on the Sandy Creek talent. Georgia head coach Kirby Smart visited the Tyrone area campus by helicopter to check in on Latimer and his teammates.
“I know Miami is showing interest, they came to see me,” Latimer shared. “Ohio State has interest. My brother’s (Geimere Latimer) school, Jacksonville State, is showing interest. Arizona State and Kent State followed me on Twitter the other day. There are a lot of college coaches are following me on Twitter.”
Interested parties will get a one-on-one opportunity to work with Latimer this summer at camps.
“I know I am going to Ohio State, Miami, Jacksonville State, a Georgia camp, LSU, Stanford, and Notre Dame,” Latimer said.
