This part of the college football calendar, the script gets flipped, coaches get to travel the country taking visits of their own to high school campuses. The meetings, even if just for a quick eyeball test, are important for player and scout. The time watching a workout or a throwing session is invaluable for both parties and helps build bonds even without a word spoken. At Melbourne Central Catholic, a lot of bonds are being made with Brogan McNab.
The Hustlers turned in an 8-3 season in 2024 with their junior quarterback earning first team All-Space Coast and 1A District Player of the Year honors.
The offense allowing McNab (5-11, 185) success on the field was explained, “We mixed it up. Our offense changes between weeks, but we are Spread based that uses QB run and QB power a lot. We threw a bunch of digs, and we were definitely heavy over the middle if teams go too high. We threw a bunch of posts. A backside one-on-one, we will take that whenever we can with any route.”
The stat line for McNab in 2024: 1,882 passing yards, 19 touchdowns, and 966 rushing yards with 12 more scores.
“I improved a bunch this year, the most was with my passing,” McNab stated. “The first game, I can’t remember my percentage, but it was not great in the first two weeks, but I ended with a 71 completion rate. By the end of season, I was super accurate with no picks. By the end of the season, I had no fumbles and no picks.”
McNab was asked about all the traits that make him a three-star QB, “What separates me on the field is my athleticism, especially at quarterback. There’s not a lot of quarterbacks that can run like me. My speed sets me apart and my cutting. Being a dual thereat, I don’t just run, I can get it where it needs to be, and I am an accurate passer too.”
The passing skills will be on point come Game 1 this fall.
“I am going to a couple QB coaches,” McNab offered. “I work with Baylin Trujillo in Orlando. He helps me with my footwork and timing. I also go to a place in Jacksonville, 6Points. They are helping me with my form and being more accurate. I am going to the field a lot, putting what they teach me to work.”
On McNab’s speed, “I ran today. I ran in the mid-4.5s with a legit trainer. The best time I had was at a camp last year, I ran a 4.58 at Penn State and UAB. This summer I am aiming for a low 4.5 to high 4.4.”
The offer bag is getting full and with new interest coming McNab’s way.
“The teams showing interest, UCF and FAU just got new staffs; they are both showing interest,” McNab shared. “I want to get there this spring for sure. App State is showing interest too.”
A lot of coaches have been heading to Melbourne this winter.
“We’ve had a handful of coaches come by,” McNab stated. “FSU, UF (Florida), UM (Miami), FIU, FAU, UCF, and Syracuse. Coach Fran Brown came and their o-line coach, coach (Dale) Williams, came by.”
Syracuse, one of the eight offering programs for McNab (at running back), that one-on-one with coach Brown was further detailed.
“I had a good conversation with him,” McNab said. “I talked to him. My committed offensive lineman (Javeion Cooper) and I went up there for the Miami game. We had a good conversation in the weight room. I will go back there on June 1 this summer. I am doing a workout there.”
Before going back to Syracuse this summer, McNab is lining up other visits.
“We are figuring that out right now,” McNab shared. “I will try to get to six to eight schools this spring. I will probably go back to UAB, Syracuse, UCF, and probably FAU; I will have to figure the rest out.”
Asked about the relationship with the Blazers, McNab stated, “They are awesome. Coach (Austin) Appleby, their receivers coach, I was there last summer for a camp when they offered me. He played quarterback. Coach (Trent) Dilfer is awesome. He has a big personality. I know they had a down year, but they are going in the right direction.”
The next coach set to visit McNab and the team at Melbourne Central Catholic is UCLA head coach DeShaun Foster.
