With the opening kickoff to the 2015 college football season less than a day away, the featured first game of the season is now set to continue into the future. On Wednesday the Charlotte Sports Foundation announced two more future games between the North Carolina Tar Heels and the South Carolina Gamecocks.
The state border schools have been on the field adversaries dating back to 1903 with a total of 55 games played between the two programs. The Tar Heels own a decided advantage with a 32-18-4 mark. The rivalry was active pretty much every year from 1949 through 1983 before the teams started playing one another randomly. From 1991 through 2006 fans clamoring for a game went unfulfilled. In 2007 the rivalry picked up with the Gamecocks winning 21-15 and then fans waited six more years until 2013 to see South Carolina win again (27-10).
The exact dates of the upcoming games have not been announced but the years inked are 2019 and 2023.
South Carolina kicks off against North Carolina Thursday night at 6 p.m. ET with ESPN carrying the broadcast.
