TCU stayed in-state on Wednesday adding Henderson High School teammates Lakendrick Van Zandt and Trestan Ebner to their 2017 recruiting class.
The duo has helped the Lions win 18 games over the past two seasons taking on Texas 4A competition. Van Zandt had 51 tackles, nine pass breakups, and three interceptions taking one back to the house as a sophomore. During his junior season he lined up at safety, running back, and wide receiver drawing double-digit offers from Houston, Arkansas State, Tulsa, Stephen F. Austin, Tulane, SMU, Memphis, Houston, and Oklahoma State.
How TCU utilizes Van Zandt’s talents at the next level will be interesting. He has great breakaway speed as a receiver and shows strong cover skills lining up in the secondary.
Ebner started jumping on recruiting boards after earning All-District honors as a sophomore pulling in 40 passes covering 918 yards with 11 scores. He also wrapped up 68 tackles and picked off four passes in 2014. Ebner was in the area of 20 scholarship offers when he committed to the Horned Frogs. Teams like Arizona State, Houston, Missouri, Arkansas, UTSA, SMU, Ole Miss, Syracuse, Kansas, Mississippi State, Indiana, Arkansas State, and Texas A&M all dropped offers.
The public learned about Ebner’s commitment on Twitter with a post reading, “We’re coming for anyone and everything that comes our way #CARTERBOYS17.” Followed by an announcement statement:
TCU now has six verbal commitments to the 2017 class with all six coming from the Lone Star State.
