Big, strong, athletic, and nasty – all the attributes college coaches love in offensive linemen can be found in Tavaris Dice (6-5, 295). The Class of 2025 offensive lineman shined against 6A Georgia defenders protecting five-star Ohio State ’24 QB commit Air Noland while opening gaping holes for 1,200-yard rusher Justus Savage (Indiana) and company. The play on the field has brought 20-plus offers with teams across the country after the four-star prospect.
The offensive firepower on the Panthers’ 2023 roster was detailed.
“We ran a spread but had a running offense,” Dice stated. “We had a good offensive line; we were strong and powerful. We had some good receivers before we got hurt; Jojo (Joseph) Stone, Jovanni McGee, and Jabari Jones. They were helping us a lot when we had them all.
“At running back, we had Savage and Tre (Dorian) Page behind him. When our team was healthy, we were stacked. We had a good offensive line and we had Air at quarterback. The spread and power runs, that was our offense; 29s-28s, running play action, and getting the ball out to the perimeter.”
Throughout his junior campaign, Dice was able to showcase his versatility in the trenches.
“I feel like my game has improved at all positions on the offensive line,” Dice said. “I was at right tackle, but then we got a transfer who could only play right tackle. We switched in the middle of the season. When we did that, that helped us a lot. In the Carrolton game, it was crazy, we had so much power on the left side. Me at left tackle, that is something I had been playing; I was comfortable. I did not give up a sack.
“Everything improved for me. During the summer, I was training a lot on my pass pro and on my steps. Say I am blocking trying to get to the linebacker, I worked on my steps on 28s-29s, not kicking too wide and going at 45 degrees; all of that improved. My o-line coach and trainer, I give them thanks.”
Georgia defenders are not going to like Dice’s offseason plans.
“This offseason I am getting stronger and heavier,” Dice shared. “I want to be at 310, and still move like I do now but faster. I don’t want to make it seem like I am 310, I want it lean and all muscle.”
The teams dropping offers on Dice are not shy sharing the reasons why.
“They like how I move and my footwork,” Dice stated. “Playing basketball helps my footwork. They like how I can move and get out to the perimeter.”
More offers could be coming Dice’s way.
“Alabama, there’s a lot showing interest, Clemson, West Virginia… I can’t think of them all right now,” Dice said.
Hanging around Dice, at any time coaches spanning the ACC to Pac-12 could be blowing up his phone.
“The USC Trojans, Florida, Missouri, Miami, LSU, Auburn, for sure, Georgia, and Tennessee are reaching out the most,” Dice shared.
With offensive line coach Jake Thornton on Dice, the Auburn Tigers were successful bringing their ’25 target to campus this fall.
“I mostly went to Auburn because I saw what they are doing,” Dice stated. “They are improving. They lost some big games, and I am confused about the New Mexico State game, but in some big games they were only losing by a couple of points; that was big for me.
“Some people doubt them, but they are making a big change. They had a chance to beat Alabama. I love their fans. I feel Auburn, as a team, they are good and competitive. It is never boring watching them; they are always interesting to watch.”
The ties to coach Thornton go back to Oxford.
“The relationship with coach Thornton is good,” Dice said. “I knew him while he was at Ole Miss. I’ve known him for a good minute. He is a really good o-line coach. He teaches good technique. We’ve known each other for a while; he really wants me to come to Auburn.”
A half dozen teams are likely to see Dice in the new year.
“I am thinking about going to LSU, Florida, Miami, Auburn, USC, most definitely, and Missouri,” Dice shared.
