TAMPA, Fla. – The Owls do a great job recruiting the Sunshine State taking seven in the 2023 class transporting them to Philadelphia. Within that mix, Temple is creating a pipeline to one of Florida’s best high school football programs, Tampa Jesuit. In the last cycle, Temple signed the Tigers’ three-star tailback Joquez Smith. In the 2024 class, they have another “Temple Tough” caliber talent verbally committed in Bryson Goodwin.
Goodwin (6-2, 180) was one Jesuit’s leading receivers last fall securing 27 passes for 513 yards with five scores posted. Staring as a playmaker on offense with some turns on defense at corner, Goodwin updated his summer grind.
“I’m just trying to improve in any area that I can,” Goodwin said. “I want to be as all around dominating as possible; I just want to progress.”
Holding offers from Bowling Green, Howard, Jacksonville State, Middle Tennessee State, Temple, and Toledo, on June 13, the Owls landed their target.
“At the beginning of June, I took an official visit and I felt that I was at home,” Goodwin shared. “I like the coaches and the school; all around it was good.”
With Jafar Williams (WR) as his primary recruiter out of Philly, the bond with the Owls’ staff continues to grow.
“I talk to coach Williams at least once a week,” Goodwin stated. “We call and have good conversations. I talk to multiple coaches actually. It is nice. I also have a friend that goes there.”
The Tampa to Philly pipeline will be further developed under Goodwin’s influence.
“I’m trying to get my teammate (WR) Gary Givens (III); I’m trying to get him an offer because he could definitely go there,” Goodwin said. “I’m also trying to get Ian Wilson, our running back.”
When Goodwin speaks about Temple’s program, he has nothing but positives to share with recruits, “Temple is a great place, gritty, and as they say, “Temple Tough”. There is a real love going on there, and they are building something.”
Goodwin may get to see the Owls play multiple times this season.
“I probably will,” Goodwin shared. “I’m definitely going to the USF game (Nov. 11) here, and I will have to figure out something else. Maybe the Navy game (Nov. 4); another one of our friends goes to Navy. Going to that game, I would get to see him too.”
