All the puzzle pieces to being a big-time national recruit are there for Jeramy Laster Jr. Laster already shows the big play potential and the want to be the go-to guy on offense. At the Pylon 7-on-7 tournament in Tampa (FL) on Saturday, the hype on the 2028 receiver made sense.

Those that get to see the Beech High School (Hendersonville) prospect on the regular have made comparisons to Alabama receiver Williams.

Williams (5-9, 160) is playing in an offense that will get him the touches to show college coaches what he can do.

“We ran twins and triples,” Williams said. “We’d have a slot and an outside receiver; the slot runs deep routes, and the outside receiver would run the short routes, and we’d work the middle. I was playing outside.

“We’d run outs, stop and go, and corners. Our main route was corners because of the defenses we were seeing. Every team was running the same defense; a Cover 2. We’d beat that with corners.”

Preparing for his breakout season this fall with the Buccaneers, Laster is driven, “Footwork, that really is what I am focused on. I only dropped three balls all season, my hands are good. I’m just working on my footwork.”

On that game speed, Laster replied, “The other day I ran 21 miles per hour; my speed is good.”

Part of the offseason workouts is playing 7-on-7 with DGA.

“Playing with DGA helps a lot because you are playing the top players,” Laster stated. “If you can show you can do well against them you will do well against anybody. It is helping a lot.”

Laster continued, “My route running, it has gotten better. I can get past defenders, I can get off the press, and I know how to get around them if they are playing off. I have learned a lot of things from my cousin, Junior (Sherrill), he’s a junior playing for Vanderbilt. I have learned a lot from him.”

Recruiting interest has begun for Laster from SEC teams.

“Alabama and Vanderbilt are showing interest,” Laster shared. “I talked to Alabama last Saturday and I visited Vanderbilt.”

Covering the time with the Commodores, Laster shared, “It was fun. They fed us, and I got to talk to their head coach and their receivers coach. Funny enough, his son goes to my school.

“I was stunned because I never really thought I would talk to big coaches like that. It was great. They were talking about me going to their camp; the camps will really show them what I can do.”

In addition to Laster’s cousin playing sports at a high level, Jeramy’s father played Minor League Baseball in the Detroit Tigers organization.
