Tennessee’s 2017 recruiting class seems never ending pushing the total of committed players beyond the 25 limit to 27 with the accepted pledge of Georgia cornerback Shawn Shamburger.
When Shamburger heads to Knoxville, he will be doing so having played for one of the better high school coaches in the nation under Rush Propst. Colquitt County is having a down year after winning a state title a year ago but are still one of the better teams in the state of Georgia this season at 6-4.
Shamburger lends his talents on both sides of the ball for the Packers pulling in seven passes for 79 yards with a score and has tallied 39 tackles, 31 solo, in 10 games this season. Shamburger has helped change the tone of games picking off four passes covering 112 return yards. He also has three tackles for a loss, six passes defended, and forced a fumble. On special teams he has returned two kicks for 42 yards this season and fielded four punts for 75 more yards.
The commitment was made public on Twitter with Shamburger posting:
Louisiana-Lafayette earned Shamburger’s commitment this summer on June 15. The union was short lived with the 5-11, 188 pound, athlete decommitting by July 26. SEC teams starting coming around on Shamburger this fall with Tennessee offering on Nov. 1 followed by Ole Miss on Nov. 4. Auburn also extended an offer. A visit to Knoxville this weekend sealed the deal for the Moultrie area native. Shamburger transferred to Colquitt County during the off-season.
247Sports rates the class No. 9 in the nation, No. 4 in the SEC, while Rivals has the group at No. 8. The class is a good one, but some attrition will have to take place somewhere within the group. NCAA rules only allows 25 signed commitments per class.
