A loaded Baylor School (Chattanooga, Tenn.) team is adding another weapon to its offensive arsenal in Briggs Cherry. The Red Raiders are fresh off a state championship win with a deep QB room that already includes 2024 Vanderbilt commit Whit Muschamp. With Cherry adding to the mix under center, the seven-offer 2026 prospect heats up the competition while signaling more trophies soon to be added to the display case.
Last season Cherry took varsity snaps for Knoxville Catholic. Cherry is ready to make the transition to his new team.
“I know they like to throw the ball,” Cherry stated. “I know they had a really good line, last year Witt sat in the pocket. I know they really like to throw the ball; I have not gotten into their plays yet.”
Working with a QB coach, Cherry gave an update on his fall preparations.
“I’m working on a quicker release and my footwork, a lot,” Cherry said. “I have to get that faster. This off-season I have been working on my speed; that’s what I have been training on mostly. I am working to get faster in and out of the pocket and with my overall movement. Overall, I am working on getting stronger.”
More is being added to Cherry’s understanding of the game working with Donovan Dooley.
“I’m in with QB University and coach Donovan Dooley,” Cherry shared. “We have Zoom meetings that we do. He knows what he’s talking about. He’s been teaching the game to me.”
The upside, skills, and size (6-3, 188) has brought an impressive offer sheet that includes Pitt, Georgia Tech, FAU, EKU, UAB, Louisville, and Ole Miss. More teams are evaluating Cherry this off-season.
“Over the past few days on Twitter, I was followed by a Penn State and an Arkansas recruiter,” Cherry stated. “I have talked to Vandy; I have a good connection with coach (Joey) Lynch (OC/QB). Those are probably the biggest three right now showing interest.”
Spring visits have been taken on the east side of the SEC bracket to Vanderbilt and Georgia. Over the weekend Penn State and Maryland welcomed Cherry to campus.
“Penn State was super-super nice,” Cherry said. “They have some of the nicest facilities, their field and their locker room. At Penn State, they are all together. They had a very good vibe. I talked to a few of their coaches while I was there.”
The time with the Terrapins was more of an introduction, but a good first impression was made.
“Maryland was a quicker visit, we had to get to our hotel,” Cherry shared. “When we got there, it was later in the evening. We were there for about 30 minutes seeing their facilities. The time we spent there, it was really nice.”
In June, visits and college camps take over the schedule for Cherry.
“We are looking for somewhere to go this weekend, but I am not sure where yet,” Cherry said. “On June1, I will be at Michigan’s mega camp; there will be a lot of colleges will be there. I like Michigan a lot. On June 7, I will be at LSU. We are still working on dates for other camps, but I know I will be at Vandy, Georgia Tech, and maybe Georgia and UAB. I will also be at Tennessee this summer.”
Over the weekend, Cherry competed at OT7’s national tournament with Sound Mind, Sound Body.
