There are lots of different types of speed on the gridiron, and Brayden Robinson (5-9, 165) has every gear one can imagine other than slow. The Class of 2026 receiver dropped jaws last fall becoming one of Red Oak High School’s (Red Oak, Texas) leading receivers. Proving the speed seen on tape is the real deal, Robinson broke school and district track records this spring.
Burning up 5A tracks in the 100, 4×2, and 4×1, Robinson laid down a personal best 10.44 in the 100 this season. That time made some history.
“I broke the school and district record that week,” Robinson stated.
The verified time helped college scouts understand what they were seeing with Robinson in a Hawks’ uniform. Robinson secured 30 passes for 523 yards with nine touchdowns during the 2022 season. The track and field performances have brought 25 offers Robinson’s way.
“It has been crazy because the year before I was looking at guys that were blowing up who were freshman,” Robinson shared. “Now I am going through it; it is a crazy process.”
Asked what is important to him early in his recruiting process, Robinson replied, “Making sure I can build a great relationship with the coaches, find a scheme that fits me, and finding a coaching staff that builds a relationship with my parents.”
The Hawks execute a version of Baylor’s former Spread offense. Robinson’s speed will be utilized all over the field this fall.
“I’m trying to be more versatile this season, I will be playing on the outside, at slot, in the return game, and coming out of the backfield,” Robinson said.
Robinson looks at the fall schedule with something more to prove.
“I have been working on being more agile and more allusive,” Robinson stated. “I want to show everyone I have more than straight line speed. This season I will show that I can change direction and create problems for the defense.”
Alabama, Ohio State, Florida, and USC are teams showing heavy interest with Texas, Nebraska, SMU, and Houston among the squads letting Robinson know he is a priority already. Some of those teams hosted him this spring.
“In the early spring, I hit Texas and Texas A&M, I went to SMU’s spring game, and a TCU practice,” Robinson shared. “I also went to OU for a visit when they were hosting 2025s and 2026 players.”
The Longhorns brought Robinson to campus before Chris Jackson was named as the receivers’ coach.
“It went great,” Robinson said. “I got to sit down and talk to coach (Jeff) Banks (TE): they didn’t have a receivers coach then. But as soon as he got there, we got in contact.”
The Aggies made Robinson’s trip to College Station memorable.
“It was great,” Robinson stated. “I wasn’t offered by them before I got there, but I talked to coach (James) Coley (TE) and coach (Bobby) Petrino (OC) and then received the offer. The culture there is very special.”
The time with the Sooners in Norman was informative.
“It was good,” Robinson shared. “I got to go there again; I have been there a few times. With the new coaching staff, I got to figure out their plan and their model. I got their perspective of the culture there.”
More trips are being planned for this summer.
“I have nothing official yet, but some schools I am trying to visit are Oregon, Texas, A&M, and Houston – schools around the area.”
College coaches hoping to work with Robinson this summer at a camp will have to wait until next year.
Some of the offering teams for Robinson includes Arkansas, Auburn, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Oregon, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas, and Utah.
