Name the offensive scheme, Air Raid, Spread, Pro Style, I-Formation, Triple Option, and Jordan Smith is an instant fit. The all-purpose back was utilized out of the backfield and split out giving Texas defenses fits during the 2024 season. The showcase of speed and talent has the 2027 prospect climbing up recruiting boards with 10 offers in hand.

The Groesbeck Goats (Groesbeck) didn’t waste the abilities of Smith (5-8, 160) giving him 70 totes that turned into 658 yards and 26 targets that produced 502 more yards with seven total touchdowns.

“We were running a Spread,” Smith stated. “We ran the ball mainly and threw here and there. We’d run a stack, two backs in the backfield, with screens out of that. But mostly we did everything out of a spread.”

Smith continued, “They would spread me out. Sometimes I would be in one spot like running back the whole game or at receiver the whole game. Sometimes I would be a decoy to open up the field.

“I have great vision; I am able to read the field. I can go to the outside using my speed as an advantage, I can bounce it outside to create yards. They used me in motion, and we’d use sweeps too. They’d get me in a spot to outrun the linebacker and I’d only have to make a move on the DB.”

The added responsibility in the Goats’ offense allowed different areas of Smith’s game to take flight.

“I got better at not just taking the hit, but also at making a move to get more yards,” Smith said. “I was getting to and through the hole quicker. I got better at being more explosive. I was at receiver more this year; I used to be just at running back. Now they are using me at both.”

That speed…. It can’t be taught.

“My best 40-yard time was a 4.3 at a Texas A&M Mega Camp,” Smith shared. “My best 100 times was a 10.89, I believe, my freshman year.”

That speed will be further developed running track for the Goats this spring.

“I am running the 100, 200, 4×1, and I might run the 4×2,” Smith stated.

Fantastic offers have already come Smith’s way with Arkansas, Baylor, Colorado, North Texas, Ole Miss, Oregon, San Diego State, UNLV, USF, and UTEP wanting him.

Smith spoke about his first offer from UNLV, “It was surprising. It shocked me. You don’t think you will get one until you get that call.”

Texas, Georgia, Alabama, and Oklahoma are among the teams showing interest in Smith. The interested and offering parties a like got Smith in town for games this fall.

“I went to Texas for the Georgia game, a bunch of Baylor games, and a bunch of A&M games,” Smith mentioned.

The outcome of the game wasn’t what Smith wanted, but the time in Austin was well spent.

“I was disappointing they lost, but it was a good experience,” Smith shared.

The repeated stops in Waco has a bond building with the Bears’ coaching staff.

“Our relationship is good,” Smith stated. “Coach Khenon Hall (RB) talks to me all the time. When I go there, he talks to me like I am his kid.”

The spring travel schedule for Smith has not been set but visits to Oregon, Colorado, USF, and Ole Miss, among others, are in the works.
