In early May, Texas A&M lost dual-threat quarterback Tate Martell in the 2017 recruiting class. Before the month was finished, the Aggies added a second gunslinger to the class in Connor Blumrick.
Blumrick was a backup on Pearland High School’s 10-2 squad in 2014 playing behind older brother Jake Blumrick. Connor took over in 2015 leading the Oilers to an 11-1 mark before falling in the second round of the playoffs 26-23 to Dickinson. The younger Blumrick split snaps with Jacob Whitehead but still managed to throw for 1,343 yards with 12 touchdowns against three picks hitting 63 percent of his passes.
The big 6’6”, 203 pound, quarterback showed dual-threat abilities running for 260 yards on 59 carries with a 100-yard rushing game under his belt.
Division-I teams took notice of Blumrick with offers coming in from East Carolina, Memphis, McNeese State, Texas State, Central Florida, and Ole Miss. In April, Blumrick took unofficial visits to LSU, Ole Miss, and Memphis. The Rebels offered in early May setting an important May 13 unofficial with the Aggies. Four days later Blumrick got his offer. Friday night, Blumrick committed.
Texas A&M now has seven verbal commitments to their 2017 class highlighted by four-stars Derrick Tucker and Grayson Reed.
