Dallas’ Bishop Lynch High School is off to a 1-2 start to the 2018 season, but don’t let their record fool you. The Friars lost their first two games by a combined 11 points to Trinity Christian (23-19) and John Curtis Christian (21-14) then blew out Centennial (Frisco) 42-3 on Sept. 14. Despite the two losses, the Friars defensive unit is allowing just 16 points per game on average. One of the stars of the Friars’ defense keeping Bishop Lynch in tight games is junior safety Texas Football .
Wyatt played at McKinley-Boyd in 2017 where he had 68 total tackles and one interception in seven games. After the season he was named first team All-District. So far in 2018, The 5-11, 190-pound, playmaker is using his unique abilities to make big plays all over the field including a 100-yard fumble returned for a touchdown against John Curtis (LA) at the Battle on the Border event in Shreveport and chipping in on offense with three carries for 16 yards with another score. The junior defender is second on the team with 26 total tackles one stop behind senior Grayson Murphy.
The Class of 2020 recruit already has one college offer and is already drawing interest from colleges all over the country. Wyatt not only shows out on the football field but also in the classroom where he has 3.8 GPA.
In an exclusive Recruiting News Guru interview, I sat down with Plae to discuss his high school football career and his recruiting process.
Interview
What are your thoughts on your team’s performance so far this season?
“My thoughts on this season is that for us to do what we always talk about doing, winning a state championship. We got a lot more to work on throughout the season. We loss to two very good teams by no more than a touchdown. It’s just some small things we have to fix.”
What are your thoughts on your individual performance so far this year?
“My individual performance this year is better than my previous two years, but I feel like I still have a lot more in the tank.”
What are your strengths on the football field?
“My strengths on the football field are my leadership abilities and how I communicate with the defense. Also, I come downhill hard and I play fearless.”
What did you think about playing in the Battle on the Border event in Shreveport?
“Playing in the Battle on the Border was a fun experience that I won’t take for granted. Not everybody gets to play in a stadium like that with a crowd that big.”
What was your thought process when you picked up that fumble in the end zone and ran it back 100 yards for the touchdown?
“The only thing I was thinking as I was running was that I needed to score; that’s all I wanted to do.”
Did you think you would make it all the way to the end zone?
“As soon as I got outside with a block from my corner, I knew I had to outrun the John Curtis player. After I did that I knew I was going to score.”
Do you have any college offers? “
“I have an offer from SMU.”
Are there any other schools showing you interest?
“There are a lot of schools showing interest; Northwestern, Michigan State, and TCU just to name a few.”
Did you attend any college camps over the summer?
“The only college camp I went to last summer was a Texas invite only camp.”
Have you been on a college visit?
“I have been on a few college visits; Arizona State, Georgia, and Mississippi State just to name a few. “
What are your goals for the rest of your junior year?
“My two goals right now are to win a state championship and be a first team All-American again. Everything else will come if I achieve those two.”
What game remaining on the schedule are you most looking forward to playing?
“The game that I am looking forward to play the most is really all of them. Transferring from a 6A public school to a private school is a big change, and I’m just trying to make the most out of this experience.”
Is there a current player that you try to model your game after?
“I try to model my game off Minkah Fitzpatrick. Him being a leader on the field and knowing what everybody’s job is supposed to be is really something to look up to.”
What is your fastest 40-yard dash time?
“My fastest 40-yard dash time is a 4.58.”
What is your GPA?
“My GPA is a 3.8.”
