Gage Goldberg is making a name for himself both on the baseball diamond and on the gridiron for Texas’ Boerne-Champion. Along with being the starting catcher, he is also a middle linebacker for the Chargers.

Through the first four games of his junior campaign, Goldberg has 17 total tackles including one for a loss and two quarterback hurries.

This 6’0”, 200-pound, hard-hitting linebacker plays with great strength, toughness, and physicality. Goldberg plays with a great nose for the football.

In an exclusive Recruiting News Guru interview, I caught up with Gage to talk about how junior season is progressing so far.

Interview

Gage, what are your thoughts on your junior season thus far?

It is an honor to be starting at middle linebacker during my junior season. It is like on-the-job training because of a lack of experience, but with repetition I am getting better and more experienced every game.

What are your strengths on the football field?

My physical strength and nose for the football.

What kind of defensive scheme does your team run?

We run a 3-4 defensive scheme.

How do your skills fit into this defensive scheme?

I believe my strength and physicality fit in with this defensive scheme perfectly.

Is there an NFL linebacker that you try to model your game after?

Leighton Vander Esch and Devin White.

What are your maxes in the weight room?

My max bench press is 275, my max squat is 405, and my max power clean is 235.

Did you attend any college camps this past summer?

I didn’t attend any college camps this summer, however I did participate in a number of private sessions with former NFL players including Derrick Johnson.

Are you receiving interest from any colleges?

I’ve spoken to a number of colleges but playing on the next level isn’t a reality until I get more much needed experience.

What are your goals for the rest of your junior season?

Our team goal is to win district. Individually, my goal is to be named All-District and become one of the best linebackers in the state.

Is there a game left on the schedule that you are most looking forward to playing?

The game against Smithson Valley, because they have two high level prospects on the offensive line and I’m looking forward to the challenge.

Do you play any other sports in high school?

I’m the starting catcher on the varsity baseball team.

What is your GPA?

3.8.

Who is your role model and why?

My dad, Bill Goldberg, because he has always been there to support me when something didn’t go my way or when times were rough.

Do you have a favorite quote or Bible verse?

My favorite quote is, “You are only as good as your next game.”

Thank you for your time and good luck the rest of the season.

Thank you, sir.
