Texas has always been a hotbed of high school football talent. The next great quarterback to come out of the Lone Star State will be Round Rock dual-threat quarterback Seth Ford. The junior is starting for the first time this season but gained plenty of experience as back up last season including going 5-for-5 for 195 yards and three touchdowns in a district game. The 6-1, 209-pound, play-maker has led the Dragons to a 2-0 start in 2019 throwing for 528 yards with four touchdowns while rushing for 129 yards and two more scores.
The Class of 2021 prospect is currently receiving interest from several colleges after attending several college camps over the summer, including Baylor. Ford is showing that he is a great leader on the field with plans to help lead his team to a state championship.
In an exclusive Recruiting News Guru interview, I sat down with Seth to discuss his high school career and recruiting process.
Interview
Seth, first off, what are your thoughts on your first two games of the 2019 season?
“The first two games have been great. I have great receivers, a great offensive line, and great running backs. Our offense is just great. Our goal is to get to that state championship.”
What are your thoughts on your individual performance during your first two games as a starter?
“I’ve done well but I have a lot to prove since I was a backup last year. There is a lot more I can bring to the table.”
What are your strengths on the football field?
“I’m a great leader and I can make a play to get the team and offense going.”
What did you work on the most during the off-season to prepare for your first season as a starter?
“My footwork and reading defenses.”
Are there any schools showing you interest?
“Baylor and Texas Lutheran.”
Did you attend any college camps during the summer?
“Yes. I competed at Texas, Baylor, and Stephen F. Austin.”
What was your favorite camp and why?
“The Texas camp, because the camp was just for quarterbacks and I got one-on-one time with not only the coaches but with starting Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger as well. That camp helped me hone my craft as a quarterback.”
What game left on your schedule are you most looking forward to playing?
“Vandegrift (Austin). They beat us 27-24 in our homecoming game last year. This year we play them on their homecoming game and we want to spoil it.”
What is your weekly routine leading up to game day?
“Usually just practice with my teammates and every Monday I watch the film and see my opponents defense for the first time.”
Do you have any pregame rituals?
“I listen to music and relax.”
Who has the biggest impact on your football career and why?
“My dad, because he got me into football after growing up playing soccer. The love of football started clicking because of him.”
Which team is your favorite football team?
“Dallas Cowboys.”
What is your GPA?
“3.2.”
What are your individual goals for the rest of your junior season?
“I want to throw for 2,000 yards, 30 touchdowns and then run for 10 more touchdowns because I consider myself a dual-threat quarterback.”
Do you play any other sports at high school?
“I play small forward on the basketball team.”
Do you have a favorite quote?
“I may win or I may lose, but I’ll never be defeated.”
Thank you for your time and good luck this season.
“Thank you, sir.”
