Texas Longhorns Pickup Prolific Playmaking WR Tren’Davian Dickson
Written by Ryan Wright
On June 1, Tren’Davian Dickson broke a lot of hearts narrowing his expansive list of scholarship offers down to just six. For a month and a half Alabama, Baylor, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, USC, and Texas toyed with the thought of what Dickson would mean to their 2016 recruiting class. On Tuesday Dickson decided to stay in-state verbally committing to the Texas Longhorns.
College coaches hoping to expand their passing game took a shine to Dickson. The 6’0”, 170 pound, receiver had offers from programs like Notre Dame, Arkansas, Michigan, Michigan State, Oklahoma, LSU, TCU, Texas Tech, Houston, North Carolina, and Arizona State. With Dickson on the field Navasota High School won a 4-A Division-I state title going 16-0. With modest numbers, the elite recruit put up a stat line of 823 yards on 39 receptions with 13 touchdowns as a sophomore.
The 2014 season was one for the record books after he pulled down 90 passes for 2,166 yards with 39 touchdowns. The 39 receiving touchdowns broke a national record.
Before his record setting season Dickson committed to Baylor in July 2014 but then decommitted in February. In the offseason he took unofficial visits to Texas A&M and Texas while receiving coaching visits from Oklahoma and Oregon.
USC may have been taken off the table after the Trojans accepted their fourth verbal commitment from a receiver on July 11, Bishop Amat 4-star Trevon Sidney.
Texas now has seven verbal commitments to their 2016 recruiting class.
