Texas Tech Picks Up Two Dallas Skyline HS Recruits, Henderson and Wallace
Written by Ryan Wright
Skyline High School in Dallas was one of the top teams in the nation in 2014 winning 14 consecutive games before falling in the fifth round of the Texas High School Playoffs 52-34 to Allen High School. On Sunday Texas Tech head coach Kliff Kingsbury aligned the Red Raiders with in-state excellence accepting verbal commitments from DE/OG Clarence Henderson and defensive tackle Joe Wallace.
Henderson is a two-way star for the Raiders lining up at guard/center and defensive end. As Skyline was making their run deep into the playoffs offers started to roll in for the 6’1”, 234 pound, athlete. Programs like UCLA, Louisiana-Monroe, Louisiana Tech, Kansas State, Kansas, Houston, and Colorado State all offered. In late July Henderson released a Top 5 of Arizona State, Cal, Iowa State, Washington, and Texas Tech.
On Sunday the Red Raiders got their man. Despite his smaller size than a prototypical offensive lineman, a lot of programs like Washington and Arizona State were recruiting Henderson as an offensive lineman. Tech sees the in-state talent as a defensive end.
Wallace is a space eater that can move the offensive line back. In 2014 he finished with 52 tackles and 10 sacks. The 6’1”, 315 pound, space eater has double-digit offers with Colorado State, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana-Monroe, SMU, Texas-San Antonio, Maryland, Air Force, Army, Iowa State, and Washington all extending offers.
The Red Raiders got a chance to see Wallace in person during a June 8 satellite camp in Lancaster. Tech won Wallace’s verbal commitment over Washington and Iowa State. Henderson and Wallace visited the Lubbock campus together on Thursday leading to Sunday’s commitment.
As Texas Tech’s recruiting class currently stands, the Red Raiders will have a Raiders Dallas style feel to it in 2016. Henderson and Wallace join teammate Da’Leon Ward as verbal commitments to Texas Tech.
The Red Raiders now have 25 verbal commitments to their 2016 recruiting class. Of the 25, seven are defensive linemen; three defensive ends and four defensive tackles.
