Texas Tech added their first running back to their 2017 class on Tuesday landing under the radar California junior college talent Tyree Range.

Range was a standout tailback during his senior season (2014) for Rancho Bernardo (San Diego) helping the Broncos to a 10-3 mark with his strong running. Range ended his senior year with 1,140 yards on the ground averaging 8.8 yards per carry finding the end zone 18 times.

At the collegiate level, Range (6-1, 230) has helped Riverside off to a 3-0 start in 2016. The Tigers as a team have rushed for an average of 198 yards per game aiding in a 37 point per game average on the scoreboard. In Range’s last game, a 45-7 win over Bakersfield, the big back rushed 11 times for 66 yards with a score. In two games played this season, Range is credited with 111 yards rushing with one touchdown off 19 totes.

Range was a one-time commitment to Montana also fielding an offer from Alabama-Birmingham. The Red Raider faithful found out about Range’s commitment on Twitter with a post in all caps reading, “Thanks to everyone who wished me a happy bday [sic]. Happy to be alive and happy to announce my commitment to Texas Tech.”

Texas Tech now has 13 verbal commitments to their 2017 class. The class is highlighted by what should be a formidable interior line in years to come with Jack Anderson, Will Farrar, and Dawson Deaton.
