The recruiting dance that has gone on between the University of Georgia and wide receiver Charlie Woerner ended on Thursday when the 4-star recruit verbally pledged to the Bulldogs.

Woerner caught the nation’s attention during his junior season playing all over the field as a true two-way player. He lined up at free safety and linebacker on defense but arguably made the biggest noise on offense seeing time at running back, wide receiver, and tight end for Rabun County. Woerner compiled 1,187 rushing yards with 11 touchdowns and pulled down 45 passes for another 690 yards with 6 touchdowns helping the Wildcats to a 9-3 record.

The offensive statistics should not minimize his efforts on defense where he had 122 stops, 3.0 tackles for a loss, 9 pass deflections, and 1 interception.

College coaches were in awe with offers coming in from Clemson, Tennessee, Oregon, North Carolina, Duke, Florida, and Michigan. The top two teams in the running all along appeared to be the Crimson Tide and the Bulldogs. The 6’5”, 220 pound, athlete took multiple unofficial visits to Tuscaloosa but made even more repeated visits to Athens on April 11, June 4, and July 18.

Georgia now has 14 verbal commitments to their 2016 recruiting class that includes one 5-star recruit (QB Jacob Eason) and seven 4-star players. Woerner joins Garrett Walston (New Hanover HS, Wilmington, NC) as the other tight end commitment to the class.
