College football’s Early Signing Period brought a lot of excitement along the recruiting trail helping coaching staffs align their sights for needs before National Signing Day arrives on Feb. 6, 2019. With most of the more highly ranked five-star recruits committed and/or signed, the look across the country for programs are to the four-star players who could impact their recruiting class in a manner similar to their five-star rated peers. One hot bed of recruiting activity leading to NSD will be in California.

The Golden State has a lot of fantastic uncommitted or unsigned talent left for college coaches to fight over for the next four to five weeks. In California, five-star receivers Bru McCoy (Mater Dei) and Kyle Ford (Orange Lutheran) along with highly ranked four-star corner Chris Steele (St. John Bosco) and linebacker Henry To’oto’o (De La Salle) are still on the market, but what about some of the other difference makers not ranked in the Top 20? The following is a list of some four-star talents who will end up making noise for respective programs when all is said and done.

DE Isaiah Foskey (6-5, 233) – De La Salle High School, Concord

Whichever team lands Isaiah Foskey is getting a well-grizzled veteran with a ton of athletic talent. A two-way player for one of California’s powerhouse programs, Foskey contributed five receptions for 108 yards with three scores on offense in stats posted through four games but his future could be on defense as an end/outside linebacker. To date, 26 reported offers have come in for Foskey from the likes of Washington, Ohio State, Michigan, Alabama, and Clemson. An official visit to Notre Dame on Sept. 29 may be the one for other teams to beat.

LB Daniel Heimuli (6-2, 225) – Menlo-Atherton High School, Atherton

Heimuli helped lead his Bears squad to a 13-2 mark in 2018 with team-highs in tackles (95) and tackles for a loss (16). The backer can also get after the quarterback credited with six sacks and three QB hurries. He is also fluid enough to cover the pass picking off two during his senior campaign. Heimuli has 26 offers to choose from with reported official visits taken to Utah, Oregon, and Washington.

LB/WR Asa Turner (6-4, 215) – Carlsbad High School, Carlsbad

Another all-around athlete left on the market is Asa Turner. Turner had 28 receptions for 338 yards with two scores in 2018 but may end up being a defensive play-maker at the next level. The recruiting process for Turner has not been an easy one. With 19 offers to choose from, he has narrowed down his Top 2 to Washington and Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish offered on May 21 and hosted him on an official on June 15. The Huskies hosted him on June 22 landing a verbal commitment from him on July 11. On Dec. 22, Turner announced on Twitter that he was still trying to decide between the two top tier football programs.

LB Henry To’oto’o (6-2, 225) – De La Salle, Concord

Another impact player out of De La Salle who is ready to make some noise at the next level is Henry To’oto’o. To’oto’o could easily be rated as a five-star with his nose for the football, size, speed in the box, and surefire tackling skills. One can tell that To’oto’o has been well-coached reading his keys racking up tackles for a loss and sheds blockers to make the play. In total, 19 offers have been extended with official visits taken to Washington and Utah. Alabama, Michigan, Florida, and Notre Dame are just a few of the other schools to have offered outside of the region. Other Pac-12 schools that could make a push includes Cal, Oregon, USC, Washington State, and Arizona.

CB Chris Steele (6-1, 187) – St. John Bosco, Bellflower

Over the past two years, Chris Steele has been one of the more highly desired corners in the 2019 class. With 48 offers to choose from, one can understand his dilemma on narrowing down his top fit. Steele worked his way into being the fifth ranked corner in the nation playing for national powerhouse St. John Bosco. Regularly going up against five- and four-star wideouts, college coaches fell in love with his size, speed, and cover skills. He closed out his senior season for the No. 2 ranked team in the country with 32 tackles, a pick, and 11 passes defended. On June 22, USC hosted Steele on an official landing him by July 6. On Oct. 18, Steele had opened his recruitment up. Florida, Oklahoma, Oregon, LSU, South Carolina, Alabama, Auburn, and Arkansas are just a few of the teams who would love to receive a signed letter of intent from Steele on NSD.
