Texas produces talented college football recruits every year and the Class of 2016 is no different with high schools athletes from all across the Lone Star State going on to play college football all over the country next season.
The state of Texas has always been a hotbed of football talent just due to its size and the amount of athletes looking to take their talents to the collegiate level. The big-time football programs in the state, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Baylor, TCU, and Houston, always try their best to keep as much of the talent at home but that is not always the case. For instance, LSU has snagged North Shore (Houston) defensive back Eric Monroe, DeSoto wide receiver Dee Anderson, and Manor linebacker Erick Fowler.
The list continues with Arkansas picking up a commitment from Central (Beaumont) running back Devwah Whaley and Alabama snagging Channelview quarterback Jalen Hurts and Shoemaker (Killeen) defensive tackle Kendell “The Hulk” Jones. Even Oregon State who picked up a commitment from Sealy athlete Christian Wallace and Washington have snuck into the game receiving a commitment from Allen High School defensive end Levi Onwuzurike.
The six big-time in-state programs have done a good job so far in their 2016 recruiting classes as Texas Tech has 26 commits while Baylor, TCU, and Houston all have 20 commitments. Texas A&M has 19 commitments and Texas just has 14. With just under two weeks until National Signing Day on Feb. 3, there is still time to fill the gaps with in-state talent with many top recruits in Texas still weighing all their options before picking their college of choice. These high school stars are being looked at by schools all over the nation so it will be exciting to see where they choose to play their college football.
