More bad news is coming out of Columbia after reports that freshman defensive end Shameik Blackshear has been shot multiple times.

Per conflicting reports, Blackshear was at The Club at Carolina Stadium near Founder’s Park Stadium, home field for the Gamecocks baseball team, around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday night when the shooting occurred. Blackshear was struck in the lower and upper body listed in serious condition. He is expected to make a full recovery.

The motive for the shooting has not been released and no suspects have been taken into custody at this time.

Blackshear was a 4-star recruit in South Carolina’s 2015 class out of Bluffton High School in Bluffton, South Carolina. The 6’4”, 245 pound, end was limited during his senior year due to a torn ACL but was an Under Armour All-American selection largely bases on a standout sophomore season when he came up with 97 tackles, 17 tackles for a loss, 19 quarterback hurries, and five sacks. He even caught a 13-yard touchdown pass helping the Bobcats to an 11-3 record.

Troubles have seemingly followed Blackshear throughout 2015 after being arrested for petit larceny in February and marijuana possession in November. The larceny charges were later dropped and the possession charge was moved to a conditional discharge upon completion of court assigned duties.

Blackshear was redshirted this season after appearing in two games tallying two total tackles. Blackshear has made comments in the past about possibly leaving the Gamecocks program. No word if Will Muschamp taking over as head coach has swayed his feelings towards playing for South Carolina going forward.
