Like him at defensive tackle or in the offensive trenches, Christian Hudson (6-2, 270) is attracting recruiting attention from college coaches because of his skill and athleticism on the gridiron. Teams have extended 11 scholarship opportunities with two squads lining up as possible hosts for the Mainland High School (Daytona, Fla.) three-star this fall.
Going both ways again for Mainland, Hudson pushed himself in the weight room.
“I maxed bench at 305, squatted 475, and my power clean max is 295,” Hudson stated.
Hudson continued talking about his summer workouts, “I worked on being more agile on the defensive side and putting in more work at guard.”
The Buccaneers rolled in their Kickoff Classic.
“It went great for me on both sides of the ball,” Hudson shared. “I didn’t get to play the second half because we were blowing them out 42-0.”
The improvements on the field are noticeable to Hudson, “My explosiveness on both sides of the ball and my aggression. I got a lot of improvement on defense from our “indy” (individual). My pass rush has improved too.”
Some of the offering teams for Hudson includes UCF, Bethune-Cookman, Charlotte, Middle Tennessee, Liberty, Iowa State, and Penn State. The next wave of offers is loading up.
“Cincinnati, Duke, Florida a little bit, Coastal Carolina, and Miami are showing interest,” Hudson said.
Two visits are in the works.
“I am working on going to Auburn or Tulane on Sept. 2,” Hudson stated.
Rapport building is beginning on The Plains.
“We are building it now,” Hudson shared. “Auburn is a long way from home, it is a new environment, and I want to see what they are building with their new head coach.”
Ties on the Buccaneers’ squad is leading Hudson to check out the Green Wave.
“Tulane is also a long way from home and a new environment,” Hudson said. “My teammate (LB Rodney Hill) is committed there. Our relationship is building fast, faster than I expected. I’ve been talking to Wes Fritz, their director of player personnel; he’s a great guy.”
During his sophomore season, Hudson put an end to 28 plays with 16 tackles for a loss, and three sacks.
