Possessing prototypical collegiate size at tailback with the productivity to back him, stock is rising on Edd Guerrier (5-10, 195). The five-offer 2024 prospect worked over Florida defenses last season for 1,450 yards on the ground with 20 touchdowns following a sophomore campaign just shy of the 1,000-yard milestone. Two teams have jumped on the Port Charlotte talent earmarking official visits.
With offers coming in from teams like Louisville, Wofford, Bowling Green, and South Dakota, interest among D-I teams has been streaming in thanks to spring practices.
“Cincinnati, Kentucky, they are giving strong interest, and Miami-Ohio,” Guerrier said. “There were a lot of schools that came by, I lost track really. App State, Mercer, Kentucky, Cincinnati, Indiana, Louisville, USF, South Dakota, Bowling Green; there’s more. I’ve talked to so many schools, it is kind of a blur.”
Florida Atlantic got Guerrier to take the trip across Alligator Alley for a visit.
“It was pretty nice,” Guerrier shared. “They were showing good love. It was nice. They toured me around, I took pictures in the jersey, I talked to the players, and I watched them practice.”
The Owls offense caught Guerrier’s attention.
“They run a good offense,” Guerrier stated. “It is similar to our offense, a Spread.”
Heading north to see the Cardinals this spring, Louisville impressed as well.
“That visit, it was nice too,” Guerrier said. “It was fun. The school was nice, and they were showing a lot of love. That was a good visit too.”
The rapport with the Cardinals continues to grow.
“Coach (Mark) Ivey (LB), that’s who I started off with but the person I text the most is coach (Chris) Barclay (RB),” Guerrier shared. “Coach Barclay is my lead recruiter. Our relationship is pretty good. We talk here and there, and they send me edits to post; it is a good relationship.”
Mixed in with Guerrier’s summer travel plans are a couple of college camps.
“I know I will be at USF on June 8 for their mega camp, and I might hit a Mercer camp in June,” Guerrier stated.
After showing out at the Bulls’ camp in Tampa, Guerrier takes off for his first official.
“I am officially visiting South Dakota on June 9 and I have a Bowling Green official set in June, but I do not have a set date yet,” Guerrier said.
The time spent in Brookings with the Jackrabbits will be a learning experience for Guerrier.
“Their coaches are showing good love,” Guerrier shared. “I want to see their facilities; they just got a new one.”
The personal interest in Bowling Green was covered.
“My position coach (Brian White) is showing good love,” Guerrier stated. “He told me if I want to get to the NFL, he can get me there. Coaches that can get me there, that is who I am messing with.”
Teams wanting to see more of Guerrier suited up with the Pirates this fall will get their wish.
“My goal is to break the record this year for rushing, the record is 1,800 yards,” Guerrier stated. “The all-time rushing record, I can get that. I want the single-season record, and that is 1,800.”
In addition to running the ball down the throats of Florida defenses, Guerrier got a chance to show he can help in the passing attack was well securing five for 113 yards with a touchdown.
“Last year we leaned more on the run, but this year we will be more versatile,” Guerrier shared. “We will run and throw, they have to pick which one to stop.
Guerrier continued, “You might see me in the slot this year. I’m for sure at running back, but you might see me some at slot.”
Asked what he feels are the strengths to his game in the Pirates’ Spread offense, Guerrier replied, “My vision, I feel that is my best part. I can read holes well. My lower body strength is a strength as well. If one person tries to tackle me solo, I can break that easily.”
