Several big decisions are ahead for Georgia three-star defender Lorenzo Cowan (6-4, 220) and all before making a big announcement in September.
Working for Jenkins High School out of Savannah, Cowan has built himself into a next level talent earning 18 offers. The field has three in focus, Kentucky, West Virginia, and South Florida, but the different schemes have the different defensive coordinators seeing Cowan differently.
“For West Virginia and Kentucky, I would be an edge rusher,” Cowan said. “At USF, I would probably be a true defensive end, a straight up five.”
The Mountaineers and Bulls already officially hosted Cowan with one more coming up.
“I have a Kentucky official set for Sept. 8 (Eastern Kentucky), but I am in talks getting that changed to Sept. 1 (Ball State),” Cowan shared.
The paid for trip to Morgantown on June 20 was covered.
“It was really good,” Cowan exclaimed. “There are good vibes there. I am really cool with coach (Jordan) Lesley (OLB) and the whole staff honestly. It feels like home there. It is a town, not a city, with cool vibes. I have a country side; half my family lives in the country. It is a place where I can see myself.”
Being in a big city like Tampa is also appealing to Cowan.
“That was also a really good visit,” Cowan said. “I have some alum playing there. Williams, was my host. I got a homey feeling there. I live in a city now; no matter where I go, I can feel at home. I am really close with coach KP (Kevin Patrick – DL); we talk a lot. We have a really good connection. It would not be a bad decision if I chose to play there.”
Previewing his September trip to Kentucky, Cowan shared his interest in the Wildcats.
“I really like Kentucky,” Cowan stated. “I have been up there; I have been there more than any other place. I have been to Lexington maybe five times. It is like family there with the staff and the players. My brother is a freshman at Kentucky, Tavion Gadson. That is something I would look forward to at Kentucky. That is like a second home to me because I have been there so much, and there is a member of my household there. That is a place where I could make a home.”
Cowan is ready to visit the Wildcats with his interests being in their spotlight.
“With the academic side, I haven’t seen what I want to major in there yet,” Cowan shared. “When my brother took his OV, I saw a lot. I know they have added some new things. They have reconstructed their indoor facility; I want to see that. I want to see their academic side as well; I haven’t covered that with them yet. I have been there with my brother, but I have not been there on my visit.”
An early to mid-September commitment is lining up for the three-star defender.
“I am thinking anywhere from Sept. 10 to Sept. 12,” Cowan said. “I had one set, an original date for Sept. 15, but I am not sure if I will wait that long. If I did, that would be my latest.”
With the window closing, Cowan is still open to recruiting pitches.
“Stay tuned, I am bigger and better than last year,” Cowan stated. “My recruitment is still open but there is not a lot of time left. I will have some film before I commit. I am still available as a recruit.”
