The next three seasons in 5A Nevada secondaries are going to be brutal when lining up against Class of 2024 receiver David Washington Jr. Already with the collegiate frame and speed, Washington (6-0, 185) is a master technician in the making as a receiving threat. The Arbor View standout is crisp with his routes, explosive in his breaks, and is already developing multiple releases keeping defenders crossed up on the snap. The skills for the Las Vegas area talent were on display at the Under Armour All-American Camp regional in Phoenix on March 27 earning positional MVP honors over all the highly recruited upperclassmen in attendance.

For a rundown on his skills and Under Armour camp performance, Washington stopped by the RNG Clubhouse for a one-on-one.

Interview

David, after watching film on you from this fall and seeing you at the Under Armour All-American camp in Phoenix over the weekend, you’ve been really busy this fall and winter. What is a typical week for you working out and working on technique?

I probably go to three to four speed and agility training sessions per week and I have three to four days of lifting. My route training comes in with speed and agility training. I run routes on the field, even on my free days on Sunday. My quarterback and I will get together on the field working to get better.

It has been a while since I have seen a freshman run routes with breaks the way you do. Just for that detail to your game, how do you work on that day in and day out?

I work on that at home and with speed and agility trainer. I focus on the little things to my route, like my foot movements.

When the next season rolls around with Arbor View, where all might we see you on the field?

You might see me in the slot and on the outside.

You played 7v7 this fall and winter, right?

Yes, sir.

Which team did you play for?

I played for the Bulls. It is Arbor’s team.

How did the tournaments go for you playing against all the upperclassmen from around the region and country?

We went to Pylon and Shock tournaments. There was a lot of competition out there. With each tournament, I try to do my best, work hard and compete against them like I am their age.

What do you feel are the strengths to your game right now?

I feel like I am good at flying past the defender, high pointing the ball, getting round defensive backs quickly, and I am a deep threat receiver. I can go down the field quick and get the ball.

At the Under Armour camp, what were some of the drills they put the receivers through?

We did slants, five-yard outs and ins with cones at each five-yard point, comeback drills, releases, and speed releases at the line.

During the one-on-one portion, what were you able to showcase with your skills?

I was able to showcase my ability to fly past the defender.

Receiving the top honors as a receiver for the camp, and on that big of stage, what was the moment like for you?

It was super exciting. I wanted to stay humble, but it was a crazy moment. I was like “wow.”

Are there any other camps coming up you may attend?

I may attend a Rivals camp in California.

Going into recruiting. Which programs are already showing recruiting interest?

Arizona, Washington, and Oregon coaches are following me on Twitter.

Which program has already offered you?

Washington State.

Getting that first offer from a Power Five Pac-12 program, what was that like for you?

It was surreal and crazy. I was super excited.

Visits are supposed to get going this summer. When that happens, are there any schools you might go see?

I hope to visit Washington State and get a feel for that school. I hear it is a nice school.

David, it was great getting time in with you today. Wishing you success this offseason with your workouts and upcoming camps.

Thank you, sir.
