The goal of an official visit is to allow a recruit to learn more about the program, bond with the coaches, and understand their potential fit in the team’s scheme that could lead to a signed National Letter of Intent. UCF did everything on point over the weekend with four-star Georgia safety Christian Peterson.
On April 5, Peterson dropped his top schools listing Auburn, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Mississippi State, North Carolina, Texas A&M, UCF, and Virgina Tech.
The Knights got the first chance to impress with Peterson.
“I went to UCF this past weekend for Bounce House weekend,” Peterson said. “It was really amazing. Everything about it, the atmosphere – amazing. There was a genuine vibe at UCF; it felt like family.”
Detail to some of the weekend events were given.
“On the first day we played different types of games; coach Gus (Malzahn) is big on competing,” Peterson shared. “We were split into teams based on positions. We played different competition games. That was really cool and interesting competing with other and against top athletes off the field; you have to have that communication to win.”
Coach Malzahn and defensive coordinator/defensive backs coach Addison Williams got the chance to speak one-on-one with Peterson.
“I talked with coach Gus and coach Addison Williams, their defensive coordinator,” Peterson stated. “They were asking me if I was at home.”
Asked where his overall recruiting is at this point, Peterson replied, “UCF is my top school right now.”
Peterson followed up sharing which programs are in contact, “Auburn is still reaching out some, Louisville, Georgia Tech, and Viriginia Tech.”
One other paid for trip could happen in the coming weeks.
“I am taking an official to Cincinnati, but I do not have a date yet,” Peterson said.
The interest in the Bearcats traces back to coach Kerry Coombs’ ability to develop defensive backs.
“Coach Coombs, he has great experience,” Peterson shared. “He has put top DBs in the NFL. That is big playing for a coach that knows what he is talking about. He has the experience and has coached the best.”
For clarification on Peterson’s top schools, he stated, “My top schools are still my top schools, but I have put Cincinnati in the mix. I have narrowed it down a little bit.”
A verbal pledge to a school from Peterson could come soon.
“I’d say I will probably commit at the end of this month or the beginning of next month,” Peterson stated.
Peterson is an ESPN rated four-star 2024 prospect out of Atlanta’s Westlake High School.
