UCLA has jumped out to a 3-0 record in 2015 with early season wins over Virginia, UNLV, and BYU moving from a preseason No. 14 ranking to No. 9 in the latest AP poll. The results on the field have been promising leading many to believe the Bruins could be a Pac-12 South title contender and a possible College Football Playoff candidate come season’s end.
If the Bruins are to navigate a tough conference schedule to post season glory, they will have to do so without junior linebacker Myles Jack.
On Tuesday, UCLA head coach Jim Mora addressed the media announcing the loss of Jack. Mora did not address the extent of Jacks’ injury or the nature of it only stating that he is lost for the season due to a serious knee injury.
Jack has been off to a great start with 15 tackles, a game preserving interception against BYU, and two passes defended. Throughout his career Jack has played on both sides of the ball adding a power element to the Bruins run game. With two carries on the young season he has seven yards and one touchdown scored. He also has one kickoff returned for 29 yards.
The Bruins suffered another setback this week with the announced loss of cornerback Fabian Moreau for the year due to injury. The senior had eight tackles, a pass breakup, and a pass defended on the season. Mora was able to help mitigate the loss of Moreua with extremely talented but embattled cornerback Ishmael Adams. Adams was reinstated after finding out he would not be charged for a felony after taking an Uber driver’s cell phone during a ride weeks ago.
UCLA has also lost junior defensive tackle Eddie Vanderdoes due to an ACL injury after their opening season game against Virginia.
The Bruins travel to Arizona on Saturday starting their Pac-12 conference play. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. ET with ABC providing the coverage.
