Playing for one of the top programs in the state of Florida brings high expectations every time the Friday night lights come on. Since his sophomore season when the Indians were making a state championship title game run, Ryan Matulevich (6-0, 175) has been there in the clutch for Venice High School. The efforts and play on the field have brought 11 scholarships to the table with D-I teams building new recruiting bonds with the 2025 prospect.
After producing 673 receiving yards off 50 receptions with five scores a year ago, Matulevich is connecting with a new quarterback this fall, Central Michigan commit Jadyn Glasser.
“I feel like the first two games were a little slow, we were a little out of sync, but in the Northwestern game we got it together; that showed,” Matulevich said. “We missed on a 70-yard TD because of a pass interference, had we connected on that, the game would have been even better for us. But we have that connection now.”
The skill set is evolving for the three-star receiver.
“I feel like my speed has improved the most,” Matulevich shared. “It is way easier to run by dudes. I can use my speed to get open and not just rely on my route running. My YAC, yards after the catch, has improved and my ability to break tackles. I’m throwing stiff arms this season. Those are the biggest areas that have improved.”
Those skills are attracting another group of D-I scouts.
“Marshall, App State, North Carolina, Dartmouth, and Wake Forest have been mailing me, sending me DMs on Twitter, and messaging me,” Matulevich stated. “Hopefully that will turn into something after putting more games on tape.”
The teams pushing the interaction are getting Matulevich to games this season.
“North Carolina and App State are reaching out the most, UCF too; I have been up there a few times,” Matulevich said. “Coach (Grant) Heard (WR) is a great coach. They are building something up there this year.”
Matulevich continued giving an update on his travel schedule, “I just went to North Carolina, my next visit is to UCF for the Baylor game (Sept. 30). I am going up there for that game.”
Details from the time spent in Chapel Hill watching the Blue Devils take down Minnesota were shared, “It was awesome. I love the school and their facilities. The vibe there was awesome. I love how they run their offense. It was a great experience overall up there.”
Tar Heels’ receivers coach Lonnie Galloway has been the point person for Matulevich.
“Our relationship has just started, we are getting to know each other,” Matulevich said. “It didn’t start until August; it is just getting started.”
The connection out of Orlando has been ongoing.
“I am talking to coach Heard the most,” Matulevich stated. “Coach Heard, of the coaches, I have connected with him the most so far. I have been there so much; he has always been there to show me around and show love. At practice he explains to me what they are doing; really like that about him.”
Another trip into ACC territory could materialize.
“I plan on heading up to Wake Forest,” Matulevich said. “I did great at their camp; I want to see more of Wake Forest.”
