If Class of 2019 linebacker Kyvin Carroll has been anything on the gridiron over the past two seasons, he’s been a consistent playmaker for Benton High School. The 5-11, 230-pound, bone jarring defender rattled opposing Arkansas 6A competition for 83 tackles, 18 tackles for a loss, 14 sacks, and two forced fumbles in 2016. He followed that up with 67 stops, 16 tackles for a loss, six sacks, three forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, and one pick-six during his junior season with offenses doing their best to avoid him.

Carroll not only succeeds in football, but also in track where he was ranked No. 1 in shotput with a chance to capture a state title this weekend in the shot and discuss. His accomplishments extend into the classroom where he carries a 3.0 and scored a 23 on the ACT. All the extra positives surrounding Carroll should help fill out his offer sheet, that started with Henderson State, in the coming weeks with interest from schools like Tulane, Georgia, Arkansas State, Yale, Tennessee-Martin, Texas State, and Missouri, just to name a few.

Taking on a new challenge, Carroll traveled to Dallas on Sunday for the Nike Opening Regional putting his abilities to the test against some of the best in the nation. In a Recruiting News Guru exclusive interview, I got a few minutes in with one of the Natural State’s best 2019 recruits covering his offseason and camp performance.

Interview

Kyvin, how are your offseason workouts progressing?

“My workouts are coming along really well. Our coaches switch up on everything with our workouts each month so we do not plateau.”

What has been the focus on your game this spring?

“This spring I am working on being more flexible with my hips and making my pass drops more naturally.”

Where are you seeing the biggest growth in your talents?

“My top speed, and I am faster and stronger. I am reading offenses better, getting in the right gap, and picking up my reads even faster than last year.”

You’ve always tested well in the weight room, have you maxed out this offseason?

“Yes, sir. We maxed out first week of spring. My bench press is 315, power clean 295, incline 275, and my squat max was 375.”

Nice. What’s the best 40-yard dash time you’ve laid down this spring?

“I ran a 4.6 at school.”

You showcased your skills at the Dallas Nike Regional, how did you feel it went for you?

“I feel like I did well. I tested well. My 40 could have been better, but I definitely held my own in the one-on-ones. There were some good athletes there. It was a fun camp for me.”

I know the Panthers have already started spring practices, how is the defense looking?

“We are looking good. We need to tighten up a few things in spring ball. We start up next week with full practices. We’ve been doing 7v7 drills in the mornings.”

Where all will you lineup during your senior year?

“I am moving from Sam to Will on defense. On offense, they are using me for personnel use as a super back. Sometimes I will be at tight end and sometimes I will be lined up in the backfield.”

Have any college coaches come by Benton to see you in person this offseason?

“Yes, sir. North Texas, UT-Martin, Texas State, and Missouri have come by our school.”

Which schools you did not just list out are showing interest?

“Arkansas State, Sam Houston State, Georgia was showing interest, and Yale – they are showing a lot of interest.”

Which schools have you visited over the last few months?

“Tulane, Sam Houston State, Southeast Missouri, Texas State, and UAPB (Arkansas-Pine Bluff).”

Are you lining up any college camps for this summer?

“I am definitely going to Texas State, Arkansas State, Sam Houston State, and Arkansas.”

I know you also compete in track throwing the shot and discuss, how is that going?

“At one point this season, I was No. 1 in state in shot. I am going to state for both this weekend.”
