As the action on the field for Conference USA teams has come to an end for the 2019 regular season, the action off it is heating up along the recruiting trail. Florida Atlantic (9-3, 7-1) wrapped up the East Division and Alabama-Birmingham (9-3, 6-2) took home the West leading to a meeting between the two squads in Boca Raton on Dec. 7 in the C-USA Championship Game. Bragging rights aside for the top two teams, all programs have some heavy lifting left to do before the early signing period Dec. 20-22.
Of all the squads in the 14-team conference, only Louisiana Tech and North Texas are on the proverbial ball nearing completion to a full 2020 recruiting class. The Bulldogs have 22 commitments followed by the Mean Green’s 17, seeing third ranked Charlotte with 14 followed by FIU (12), Rice (14), UTSA (13), UAB (12), WKU (13), FAU (9), Southern Miss (9), Old Dominion (8), UTEP (6), and Marshall (6).
Within the classes, Louisiana Tech, North Texas, FIU, Rice, UAB, and FAU have filled their verbal commits with three-star recruits. When it comes to throwing the pigskin around, Charlotte, Rice, and UTEP are still looking for that difference maker. If all stays as is, FAU will have signed the highest rated quarterback overall in three-star dual-threat Antony Romphf, ranked No. 30. As a pro-style QB, FIU tops the list with No. 43 ranked Haden Carlson.
