Utah picks up Texas Class of 2016 WR Jay Griffin
Written by Ryan Wright
Utah added their first wide receiver to the 2016 recruiting class on Monday when Jay Griffin verbally committed to the Utes.
Griffin, 5’10”, 160 pounds, is a gritty all-purpose offensive weapon for Huntsville High School. The Texas native had 24 receptions for 367 yards with five touchdowns in the passing game and carried the ball 10 times for 226 yards with another score.
Utah was able to pluck the under the radar recruit away from Central Florida, Stephen F. Austin, and New Mexico State. All the offers have come in the offseason with UCF extending first in early May followed by Utah on June 28. NMSU and Stephen F. Austin jumped into the fray over the last couple of days.
The Utes have been busy since Saturday picking up four reported commitments. Athletes Davir Hamilton, Daevon Vigilant, and junior college defensive tackle David Fangupo each committed over the weekend. Utah now has 10 commitments to their 2016 class.
