When Utah snagged San Clemente High School tight end Cole Fotheringham out of southern California in July, the Utes picked up a big under the radar national recruit.
Fotheringham had an excellent junior season pulling down 55 passes covering 650 yards with nine touchdowns. The Tritons finished the season 12-2. Now the 6’5”, 225 pound, every down end is helping the Tritons in every way possible with a stat line of 15 passes caught, 207 yard receiving, and two touchdowns with the team sitting at 4-2.
When the Utes secured Fotheringham’s verbal commitment, they landed him over offers from BYU, Utah State, and Nevada with schools like USC, Washington, and Nebraska showing interest. Utah currently has 21 verbal commits to their class with four receivers and Fotheringham being the only tight end. What the commitment list does not show is the multiple positions he can bring to the field. Fotheringham is a true hybrid able to put a hand down on the ground, line up in the slot, and, based off his blocking along the line, will be able to line up in the backfield as an H-back if asked.
Fotheringham’s mid-season highlight reel is complete with one handed corner of the end zone catches, tight route running, tireless blocking springing his teammates for extra yards in both the running and passing game, and is even has a 77-yard bullet touchdown pass tossed.
