The Roadrunners’ coaching staff just closed one of the top 2017 recruiting classes in Conference USA but the back pats and high-fives ended quickly getting back to work on the 2018 class. Early effort put in for next year’s group has paid off securing wide receivers Sheldon Jones and Andrew McGowan on Monday.
Jones is the speedy slot receiver that can drive defenses crazy. The 5-9, 160 pound, target helped Warren Easton High School to an 11-5 season in 2016 leading the team with 79 catches for 1,246 yards with two touchdowns. The three-star New Orleans product had early offers from Jackson State and Memphis with interest from Kansas and Southern Miss before committing to Texas-San Antonio.
Roadrunner fans found out about Jones’ commitment on Twitter with a post reading, “Blessed to say I have committed to UTSA.”
McCowan was a first team All-South selection in 2016 after racking up 77 catches for 1,234 yards with 13 touchdowns. On defense he had 27 total stops, seven passes defended, and three interceptions compiling 95 return yards. UTSA jumped on the overlooked talent early over interest from Houston and Texas State. The 6-3, 182 pound, athlete posted his commitment on Twitter as well writing, “I’m a Roadrunner. The post was accompanied with a statement:
