College teams looking for a dominating presence along the offensive line that is akin to an old pro, Romello Watson is in the transfer portal. Watson (6-4, 310) has played up and down the line in the collegiate ranks, and at a high-level earning JUCO All-American honors at Kilgore.
After ending his high school career with Texas’ Seguin, Watson has been picking up experience. From Kilgore to a medical redshirt year in 2022 with Grambling State, Watson was an 11-game starter under head coach Eddie George at Tennessee State in 2023. After a short stint with Georgia State, Watson has a confirmed year left with the plan to petition for a second.
Reporting a 550-pound bench and a 600-pound squat, Watson is that guy on the o-line.
“I feel like one my strengths is my versatility,” Watson stated. “Because I have the length of an offensive tackle, the strength and power of a guard, and I can mentally play in any style of offense. When I play, I play with a lot of physicality. I am old school. I play with a chip on my shoulder; I will finish a guy if I can.
“Playing at Georgia State, I learned a lot of technique to go with my brute strength. My feet – I have good feet. I can move like an athlete.”
Without all the hype given to others in the transfer portal, offers for Watson have come from Gardner-Webb, Texas A&M Commerce, Wagner, Stoneybrook, and Houston Christian.
Watson shared the long list of interested teams, “Georgia Tech, Eastern Kentucky, Tulsa, Buffalo, LA Tech, Montana, and Southern Utah; that’s all I can think of right now.”
One official visit has been taken with another set.
“I went to Texas A&M Commerce and I have one scheduled with Gardner-Webb,” Watson stated.
The visit with the Lions was detailed by Watson, “It was a good visit. I like everything they have going on with their program.”
Watson is excited to learn more about the Bulldogs in the Big South.
“It is a great opportunity,” Watson said. “They want me to come in and be their offensive tackle. I am taking great interest in that visit as well.”
The former All-American spoke about what he’s looking for in that next school, “A home where I can come in and dominate. I want a place that fits me with the scheme, a power scheme, that is a running offense that can pass as well. I am looking for a scheme, a place to be comfortable, one with a good name behind them, and the potential to make it into the NFL.”
During the 2024 season, the Panthers were running a pro-style offense against Sunbelt competition.
