Hard to imagine that there was a junior during the 2015 season that did more for his team collectively than what Greg Johnson did for Hawkins High School. Johnson lined up at quarterback, wide receiver, cornerback, and returned kickoffs. The overall effort contributed to an 8-1-1 season for the Hawks.

Johnson’s 2015 season consisted of 193 yards passing on 8 of 15 attempts with one score, 83 carries for 1,108 yards with 11 touchdowns, and 28 receptions for 422 yards finding the end zone six more times. On special teams he added 422 kick return yards and 47 on punt returns. On defense the 5’11”, 185 pound, talent had enough energy to drop 42 ball carriers, 33 solo, along with three tackles for a loss, six pass defended, and four interceptions traveling another 121 yards.

That type of versatility and ability was greatly appreciated by college coaches. To date, Johnson has at least 25 offers from programs like UCLA, USC, Tennessee, Colorado, Washington, Michigan, Arizona, Arizona State, Cal, Florida, Utah, Notre Dame, Nebraska, and Mississippi State.

The honors for Hawkins go beyond the high scholarship offers. He has already been selected as a U.S. Army All-American Game invitee.

In a Recruiting News Guru exclusive interview, I caught up with Johnson at the Nike Opening regional in Los Angeles to go over his offseason plans and received a recruiting news update.
