All the skills have been on display this season for Josiah Oxendine. Throwing on the run to his left, hanging in the pocket going through his progressions, rifling passes into the breadbasket, and looking like a dynamic dual threat when he tucks and runs are all weapons in the arsenal. Oxendine (6-0, 185) has his Wildcats squad off to a 5-1 record impressing scouts with his wide array of talents on the field.
Competing against 3A South Carolina teams, Oxendine updated Dillon High School’s success to date.
“It is going really well, we are 5-1 on the season,” Oxendine said. “We had our first region game last Friday. We are 1-0 in our region, that is the big thing. We have four more games in region and then the playoffs. How we do in region, that will determine our seeding.”
Executing a Spread attack, the 2026 prospect broke down his game from his varsity play a year ago.
“I’d say my IQ and decision making has been better than last year in our system,” Oxendine shared “We do a lot more things with me being able to run more. I am throwing intermediate passes better this year.”
Oxendine continued, “I’ve shown the ability to read a defense, make plays, I’m making all the throws on the field, and showing off my athleticism a little bit.”
The offer sheet includes Akron, Appalachian State, Florida A&M, Georgia Southern, Marshall, Pittsburgh, and Tennessee. ACC and SEC squads are taking notice.
“I’m receiving interest from Florida State, South Carolina, North Carolina, Clemson, NC State, Duke, and Virginia Tech,” Oxendine stated.
The recruiting process for Oxendine is amping up with three game-day visits already wrapped this season.
“I’ve taken three visits, App State, that was three weeks ago, the week after that I went to Clemson, and this past Saturday I went to Duke,” Oxendine said.
Oxendine broke down his three recruiting visits.
Appalachian State: “That went really well. I saw them taking on East Carolina (Sept. 16). I talked to a couple of coaches and their recruiting analysts. They have offered and are showing a good amount of interest.”
Clemson: “That went really well. Coach (Dabo) Swinney talked about his program. He doesn’t just value the football side but also the educational side of the person. He said he doesn’t believe in the transfer portal or offering early. Coach Swinney said, ‘if we offer you, we want you to be the guy for us, and we want you to commit.’ That is his mindset and I respect that.”
Duke: “That was a really good visit. Duke has a great atmosphere; I think that was their first game day ESPN GameDay with Kirk Herbstreit and Chris Folwer. Duke almost squeezed it out (vs. Notre Dame 14-21). They were one play away from making it. They almost had an interception on the last drive. Had they got that interception, they would have been able to run out the clock. I appreciate coach (Kevin) Johns (OC/QB) for allowing me to come to the game.”
More visits are on the schedule.
“I am looking at two,” Oxendine shared. “I am going to FSU this week and to Tennessee next week for their game against (Texas) A&M (Oct. 14). FSU is playing against Virginia Tech on Saturday.”
Oxendine shared his enthusiasm for both upcoming trips.
Florida State: “I’m excited to go to FSU. They are doing really well; I think they are ranked No. 5. It should be a great atmosphere. I have a great relationship with coach (Tony) Tokarz (QB) and coach (Mike) Norvell. I am looking forward to seeing how they warm up and do everything. I can’t wait to see how they play. I am excited to see how they do everything during the pregame.”
Tennessee: “I am very excited for that visit as well. That game will probably be a shootout. I can’t wait to see coach (Joey) Halzle (OC/QB) and (Josh) Heupel. They have done a great job with that offense and are having a great season. I am also excited to see Joe Milton. That atmosphere, they have over 100,000 fans. It will be crazy if that game is packed out.”
