Washington State seemingly always finds a way to get extremely talented players by and large overlooked by other Division-I programs. The theory held true on Tuesday when California running back Cyrus Habibi-Likio verbally committed to the Cougars.
After a little playing time during his sophomore season, Habibi-Likio had a breakout season for St. Francis High School in 2015 rushing for 1,438 yards off 234 carries with 17 touchdowns. The 6’1”, 200 pound, back showed his all-purpose abilities pulling in 12 passes for 166 yards with two more touchdowns. Another area where Habibi-Likio shinned was on special teams. He led the Lancers in kick return yards taking 16 attempts back for 598 yards with a long of 93.
Recruitment of Habibi-Likio has picked up in the offseason with double-digit scholarships put on the table in total. Teams seeking the Mountain View area talent includes Iowa State, Army, Columbia, Eastern Washington, UNLV, Wyoming, New Mexico, Hawaii, and BYU.
WSU’s recruiting efforts so far have gone in spurts. Dontae Powell and Connor Neville both committed on April 2 and Isaiah Hodgins and Habibi-Likio committed one day apart. Tayari Venable has been a Cougar commit since July 2015.
