The years of hard working are about to pay off for 2024 defensive tackle Dimitry Nicolas. The Miami Norland defender (6-3.5, 301) has been rewarded for his talents in the Florida trenches with 28 scholarships handed over. A list of 13 favorites was announced on April 11, with that list trimmed to seven, and a commitment is coming on Aug. 17.
A few short weeks ahead of his announcement, Nicolas shared which teams are in heavy contact, “Florida, Louisville, Pitt, and Auburn.”
The Tigers will be the last to host Nicolas before he makes his decision to the public.
“I will be at Auburn’s Big Cat event on Saturday,” Nicolas stated.
Nicolas covered his interest in heading to The Plains this weekend.
“They are building a new staff and have new players coming in; I want to see how it is there,” Nicolas said. “I have never been there; I want to see what they have going.”
Auburn defensive line coach Jeremy Garrett has made an impact on Nicolas’ recruitment.
“I have a great relationship with coach “G”, coach Garrett, their defensive line coach,” Nicolas shared. “We talk every now and again. He has talked to my mom too. He makes me feel like part of the family already; we have a great relationship.”
Three official visits are in the works.
“I am trying to set Florida, Louisville, and Auburn,” Nicolas stated.
Good vibes are coming out of Gainesville for Nicolas.
“I have never had a problem with Florida,” Nicolas shared. “I have a great time every time I go there. They invite me to every event they have. Coach (Sean) Spencer (DL) and I have a great relationship. I have a great time every time I go there.”
The interaction with the Cardinals’ staff is heating up.
“I just started to get in contact with them,” Nicolas said. “We haven’t been that close, but we are trying to build that relationship and foundation.”
On the topic of committing, Nicolas stated, “I want to commit on Aug. 17.”
The contending schools were listed, “Right now, I have a top seven of Miami, Pitt, Tennessee, Florida, Louisville, Auburn, and Maryland.”
There is a strong pull to Coral Gables for Nicolas.
“Miami is amazing to me,” Nicolas shared. “I have a lot of former teammates committed to Miami, guys like JoJo Trader and Vince Shavers. Every time I go there, I have a great time with coach (Mario) Cristobal. My mom loves him. She always has a big smile when she goes there.”
Nicolas is being recruited to Pitt in more ways than one.
“I talk to Pitt almost daily with coach Charlie (Partridge – DC/DL),” Nicolas said. “I have a teammate that just committed to Pitt, (LB) Jeremiah Marcelin. He tells me about them. I will probably visit Pitt soon to get a feel for them. I have never been there.”
A trip to Knoxville could be the piece the ties prospect to the Volunteers’ 2024 class.
“We talk every other week… I am not sure how to describe it,” Nicolas stated. “I know they want me to come to see them. I feel like they have great charisma and I like how they handle themselves.”
