The 2018 high school football season is upon us in Louisiana. While a race begins to the Dome, the regular season in the Sportsman’s Paradise is chalked full of intrigue. One person drawing a crowd to the stands for the fans and among the college ranks with the teams scheming to stop throughout the season is Class of 2020 Westgate High School receiver Kayshon Boutte.

Boutte is not only one of the top players in the state of Louisiana, he is ranked among the best in the country among his peer group. Per 247Sports, the 5-11.5, 185-pound, athlete is the No. 1 player ranked in Louisiana’s 2020 recruiting class, No. 67 overall in the country, and the No. 11 receiver in his class. That attention coupled with double-digit scholarship offers from programs like Arkansas, West Virginia, Kansas, Tennessee, LSU, Louisiana-Lafayette, Missouri, and Louisiana Tech will give opposing 4A squads an extra reason to try to shutdown the New Iberia standout play by play, quarter by quarter, and game by game this season.

In the second installment of a weekly series with the four-star receiver that will run throughout the season, I got a preview of the Tigers’ opener against Catholic (New Iberia) with Boutte along with a stat line prediction.

Interview

Kayshon, the moment of truth is here. Is the team pumped to play No. 15 Catholic (New Iberia)?

“Yes, sir.”

What kind of game are you expecting from the Panthers defense as a receiver?

“I think they have a good defense, but I will still find my way to do what I do.”

Which positions are you playing on defense against Catholic?

“Safety and corner.”

What about when you flip the field playing safety?

“I am expecting a good game. They don’t pass much except to one of their receivers. They are a Wing-T team.”

Are there any key matchups or key players you are going up against with Catholic?

“They have one good receiver, we will have him covered. We will do what we have to do to keep him covered.”

What kind of numbers are you seeking to post on Friday on offense?

“I am looking for about seven catches for 165 yards and two touchdowns.”

The Catholic showdown is a home game for the Tigers, what will the crowd be like on Friday for the season opener?

“It is going to be packed. Last year both sides were backed and there were people lined up around the fence, and along the sidelines. It was backed like a playoff game. When a big play happens, it gets loud. And, with the band playing and the crowd, it gets really loud.”

Kayshon, thanks for your time today and good luck Friday night.

“Thank you.”
