West Virginia started National Signing Day with a bang pulling 4-star linebacker/athlete Brendan Ferns out of Ohio.
Ferns (6-2, 215) was an absolute playmaker for St. Clairsville High School (St. Clairsville) lining up all over the field but primarily at linebacker, running back, and tight end. He ended his senior season with 118 tackles, 10 tackles for a loss, five pass breakups, two sacks, two picks, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery.
On offense Ferns had 1,066 yards on the ground off 154 carries scoring the rock 18 times and had 27 receptions for 600 yards with four more scores working his way into being a U.S. Army All-American Bowl selection.
Ferns decision to sign with the Mountaineers was no surprise after taking multiple visits to WVU. In total, Ferns had 28 offers from teams like Alabama, Michigan State, Georgia, Kentucky, Duke, Notre Dame, Vanderbilt, Oregon, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Pitt, Stanford, Texas A&M, and Penn State.
WVU has 27 verbal commitments highlighted by 4-star DB Kyzir White and Ferns.
