The Florida high school football playoffs never let the fans down producing one great game after another going down the classification lines. In the Sunshine State’s top division, Winter Park is rolling through their 2023 schedule. The Wildcats are 6-0 behind a stingy defense and a quarterback slinging it all over the yard making this squad one teams are not looking forward to seeing in the chase for a ring.
Aaron Williams (6-1, 200) has been on the money with the Wildcats hitting at a 74 percent clip. The senior gunslinger has covered 1,346 yards off 92 completions with 15 touchdowns and has run in three.
“Overall, our season is going very well,” Williams said. “We are 6-0 and coming off a bye week. We should run the table the next three weeks go undefeated. We had a game in Georgia get cancelled.”
The strong-armed Florida QB has a flow going within the Wildcats attack.
“The strength of my game is my tempo, controlling the game, playing with pace, and game management,” Williams stated. “My accuracy as well.”
Asked, in which game have you turned in your best performance so far this year? Williams replied, “I’d say the Boone game. I read the defense well in that game. We had a good gameplan and put it into action. I layered the ball and put touch on it, especially over the middle, in that game.”
Bethune-Cookman and Furman have extended opportunities for Williams to continue dealing the pigskin around the yard at the next level with interest coming his way.
“FAU is showing interest,” Williams shared. “I’ve had great conversations with all of their coaches and with those on their staff. I have been down to USF twice in the past three weeks. We loved the visits; the staff is great. I talked to coach (Jared) Peery (QCA) and coach (Joel) Gordon (OC/QB); I had great conversations with them. They have a commit in my class, but we are keeping the conversations going.”
Williams continued, “Columbia is showing interest. Coach (Sky) Mornhinweg (QB) said offers will not be sent out until later in the year. I will be at Furman in two weeks and Dartmouth next week; that could turn into an offer.”
More details about the two trips to Tampa were given, “Those visits have gone really well. Game day visits, they are not personal like a normal visit. We talked to coach Gordon quite a bit on the visit and coach Peery for about 45 minutes. On Saturday, coach Peery was going over my film.”
Asked about the feedback received from coach Peery, Williams shared, “He seemed to like it. Normally, I have heard coaches will look at your film for only 30 seconds. We watched the whole clip. He complimented me. I think he was impressed by what he saw.”
The back and forth with the Furman coaches was updated, “The relationship with Furman is pretty good. Coach (Cory) Colder (RB) is my recruiting area coordinator; we can talk all day. Coach (Justin) Roper (OC/QB) and I have talked a couple of times. I have a great connection with Furman; we put in some good work at the camp.”
The rapport with Dartmouth is building.
“We have talked to coach (Kevin) Daft (OC/QB) a couple of times,” Williams said. “My coaches at Winter Park have reached out to them, the same with Columbia. I am excited to meet the whole staff up there and build something up there.”
Williams is also getting it done in the classroom carrying a weighted 4.86 GPA.
